DISINGENUITY

DISINGENUITY

I was in a good mood until I read the paper this morning, that paper being the Halifax Chronicle Herald, which, in my opinion, is the worst daily in Canada.

Their reporter in Ottawa, Andrea Gunn, noted that Scott Armstrong, defeated by Bill Casey in Nova Scotia has been appointed by Rona Ambrose to be Atlantic Provinces critic for the party. Of course, he is not elected, so will be paid by the party for his services.

Out of thin air, Ms. Gunn decided to contact Michael Behiels for his reaction. Behiels is or was associated with the University of Ottawa, a known hotbed of liberalism. He is a prominent defender of Pierre Trudeau’s concept of federalism. he was a student of George Cook, who publicly supported Trudeau the elder in his Liberal Party election campaign.

Said the good professor: “It (the appointment) rejects every conceivable political convention”. “It’s a slap in the face to Atlantic Canada….this guy is going to be made a laughing stock”.

Speaking as a Nova Scotian, I would much rather have Armstrong speaking for the party than, say, an elected MP from Ontario or Quebec.

But Behiel’s attack was so strident, I decided to look him up on twitter. (His handle is @67Capt_Canuck) His tweets and re-tweets reflect a man who supports the Liberal Party and who despises the Conservatives. Here are some of those tweets:

October 27th
“Why are Harperites such sour losers? They love to dish out dirt but whine loudly when it’s dished their way”.

November 4th
“Perhaps when all the hard evidence is in,Cnds will understand why Harper was unfit to become Prime Minister”.

November 6th
“Some Cps are no longer drinking the Harper Kool-Aid sent over every morning from the PMO with their scripts”!

November 14th
“Trudeau’s challenge is to convince a majority of Canadians that increased taxes is critical for greater equality”.

November 19th
“Harper’s CP locked out of power in Ottawa and it will soon be locked out of all provinces except Saskatchewan”. (Note: the Conservatives do not run provincial candidates).

You might wish to send a tweet to Behiels yourself.

Gunn has no credibility, neither does Behiels. Neither has presented themselves for what they are.

As for myself, I am a fiscal and social conservative, end of story, proud of it!

The only person that shows class is Liberal MP Bill Casey who defeated Scott Armstrong: “Shadow cabinet positions are usually given to elected members but I’m sure Scott will do a good job”.
